Calling all Gouda lovers! This month’s Artikaas Youngsters Chimichurri Gouda is going to reel you in like an Argentinian tango!
If you have been a cheese club member for a while, then Artikaas is a household name to you. If you are new, you are in for a tasty treat from one of our most beloved multi-generational cheese making families.
Artikaas traces its beginnings back to 1890 when Peter Bouter began a cheesemaking business called Bouter Kaas in the Netherlands. Six generations later – and after a merger with another cheesemaker, Anker Kaas, who trace their founding back to 1963 – today’s cheesemakers combine traditional and sustainable cheesemaking methods that date back over 2000 years with modern-day technological advances to create enduring cheese masterpieces of texture and flavor to satisfy the growing international demand.
The ingredients of the base cheese are simple – pasteurized cow’s milk from cows that graze in grassy meadows, salt, cheese cultures, and vegetarian rennet. It is a young Gouda, aged only four to six weeks.
Youngsters Chimichurri Gouda is pale ivory in color with a firm, yet velvety paste that becomes even more luscious and creamy as it becomes warm. It will captivate your taste buds with young Gouda flavors like sweet cream and toasted nuts, dashed with the Argentinian-style chimichurri spices of cilantro, fresh parsley, and garlic found throughout the paste. Rich and buttery meet bright and herbaceous in this one-of-a-kind Gouda.
To serve, remove it from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes in advance of serving to bring out its optimal aromas and flavors. This Gouda is an ideal snacking cheese because it is all at once savory, silky-smooth, and spicy. It takes at least two to tango, so pair it alongside a variety of charcuterie and salty roasted nuts. It can also be crumbled or grated atop pastas, pizzas, salads, soups, and veggies of all kinds.
This Gouda is also the quintessential melting cheese. Use it to make the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich and to add a zesty zing to classic macaroni and cheese. It is also the perfect cheese for hot fondue and chips and dip. Pull out all the stops and make an Argentinian feast of cheesy carne asada and empanadas. A Gouda this decadent calls for bold beverage pairings like Argentinian Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dutch bock beers, and hoppy amber ales.
